Paco Bustamante

[English below] Paco Bustamante est professeur en écotoxicologie marine à La Rochelle Université (LRU). Sa thèse portait sur les processus de bioaccumulation et de détoxication des éléments traces chez les mollusques céphalopodes et les pectinidés et a été soutenue en 1998 à La Rochelle Université. Après sa thèse, Paco a fait un post-doctorat au laboratoire de Radioécologie Marine de l’Agence Internationale de l’Énergie Atomique (IAEA) à Monaco en 1999. Il a été recruté en 2000 comme Maitre de Conférences puis comme Professeur en 2007 à LRU où il exerce toujours ses fonctions d’enseignant-chercheur.

Membre de l’IUF (Institut Universitaire de France; promotion 2017), il est l’auteur d’environ trois cents articles scientifiques, portant principalement, chez les organismes marins, sur les processus de bioaccumulation et de détoxication des contaminants, sur l’influence des facteurs gouvernant leur bioaccumulation et sur les effets de ces contaminants, dans des écosystèmes contrastés, tempérés, tropicaux et polaires.

Dans le projet TONIC, Paco apportera son expertise en contribuant principalement aux WP2 et 3 sur les questions de l’impact des contaminants sur la valeur nutritionnelle des poissons, leur reproduction et leur survie et de l’influence des facteurs du milieu sur leur bioaccumulation et leur bioamplification dans les réseaux trophiques.

Paco Bustamante is a professor in marine ecotoxicology at La Rochelle University (LRU). His thesis focused on the processes of bioaccumulation and detoxification of trace elements in cephalopod molluscs and pectinids and was defended in 1998 at La Rochelle University. After his thesis, Paco did a post-doctorate at the Marine Radioecology Laboratory of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Monaco in 1999. He was recruited in 2000 as a Lecturer and then as a Professor in 2007 at LRU where he still performs his duties as a teacher-researcher.

Member of the IUF (« Institut Universitaire de France« ; in 2017), he is the author of around three hundred scientific articles, mainly relating, in marine organisms, to the processes of bioaccumulation and detoxification of contaminants, to the influence of the factors governing their bioaccumulation and on the effects of these contaminants, in contrasting, temperate, tropical and polar ecosystems.

In the TONIC project, Paco will bring his expertise by contributing mainly to WP2 and 3 on the questions of the impact of contaminants on the nutritional value of fish, their reproduction and their survival and the influence of environmental factors on their bioaccumulation and their biomagnification in food webs.
